Suni smart energy – carbon credit project
Suni smart energy – carbon credit project
National carbon credit development, verification, and trading platform.
The National Carbon Credit Mobilization project is a USD 27 million public–private partnership (PPP) structured under a 10-year build–operate–transfer (BOT) arrangement between the State Department for Environment and Forestry and Suni Smart Energy Ltd. The project aims to develop, verify, and trade jurisdictional carbon credits generated from Kenya’s national tree-planting and reforestation programs. It will establish a robust carbon registry and monitoring system to align with international carbon market standards and attract climate finance.
The feasibility study has been completed, confirming strong potential for scalable carbon sequestration and revenue generation from voluntary carbon markets. Once implemented, the project will mobilize private capital for afforestation, reduce national greenhouse gas emissions, and position Kenya as a leading hub for carbon trading in Africa.
