Masai solar power project
Masai solar power project
400 MW solar PV with BESS across two sites.
The Masai solar project is a USD 520 million solar energy investment project comprising of two sites: the Narok 100 MW Solar PV with Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and the Suswa 300 MW Solar PV with BESS, totaling 400 MW. Development commenced in 2020 under a consortium led by SIC Investment, ACCIONA Energía Global, and Barwasim Africa Consulting Ltd. Both sites integrate advanced BESS technology to ensure grid stability and reliability, allowing storage of up to 200 MWh of power for peak demand use.
The project will deliver sustainable, low-cost energy to the national grid while promoting local job creation, technology transfer, and community electrification. Strategically positioned near Suswa substation, the project will also strengthen transmission reliability between Narok and Nairobi, directly supporting Kenya’s 100% clean energy ambition by 2030.
