The Nyatike/Gogo Dam Project is a USD 232 million public–private partnership led by the National Irrigation Authority. Located in Migori County, it aims to supply both domestic and irrigation water to over 107,000 residents and expand the Lower Kuja Irrigation Scheme by 66,000 acres, bringing the total irrigable area to 27,000 hectares across Nyatike, Migori, Uriri, and Ndhiwa districts. The dam will also generate 16.25 MW of hydropower. It is designed to alleviate chronic water shortages caused by droughts and declining borehole yields, which have constrained agriculture and livelihoods.

The project’s expected payback period is 7 years, with an IRR of 12.53% under optimized operation assumptions. Revenues will come from irrigation water sales (approximately USD 60 million per year), hydropower sales to KPLC, and domestic water supply (50,000 m³/day). Overall, the dam is intended to enhance food security, climate resilience, and economic growth in Migori County.
